Time to Let in the Sunshine, Isn't It?

OK, I need to focus here. I need to cast aside the gray raininess that summer 2008 has been in Vermont and invite the sunshine in.

I've already had a strong dose of sunshine this summer. Hot, unbelievable sunshine that burned into me right through my clothes. For, loonies that we may all have been, a group on a National Science Foundation Chautauqua went with my Maya guru Ed Barnhart to the Yucatan, Mexico in July to follow the zenith passage at Maya ruins.

The zenith passage is when the sun is absolutely, positively, directly overhead and there are no shadows. It only occurs below the Tropic of Cancer [23.5 degrees north latitude] in the our hemisphere.
Needless to say, there is no zenith in Vermont. Or anywhere else in the U.S.

We caught the zenith at a stele at Dzibalchaltun:
And at the Castillo at Chichen Itza: So I guess I have had my sunshine this summer! Hallelujah!
