That's what it is...The Dead of Winter...
I'm reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, an academic mystery/vampire/DaVinci Code sort of book that's very dark and really well written. It gives me the creeps. I find I'm really anxious for the characters...who will survive and who won't.
Plus, it travels all over Europe and the Near East. It makes me want to see medieval walled cities and cloisters in France, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the Danube, Paris, Amsterdam, Oxford...So I have a nice [if dangerous] trip as I read it and realize how much there is to see and what a late start I've gotten.
Gotta get going, both now and in general...get out of my isolation and lethargy and start engaging with the world out there. It is dangerous to remain too isolated, especially in January. My friend Elin was great at keeping moving. "The hardest part is walking out the door," she said.
